Like I said in a previous post in this thread, I used to get "run dry" c900 five speeds pretty regularly for "rebuilding". Some had gotten so hot that parts had galled and seized together to the point that the unit couldn't even be fully disassembled (even using brutethane!). It's a heartbreaking shocker when you get one of those on your bench.
I once had to drive my '76 Dodge truck with a 318 V8 like hell for about 35 miles with nothing but air in the cooling system and the temp. gauge pegged (it was an emergency like when John Wayne rides little Blacky into the ground in True Grit). Just as I pulled up at my destination the engine seized and screeched to a halt. I figured it was wrecked but the next morning I turned the key and it ran just like nothing ever happened. Ran fine daily for about 5 more years when I sold it. Go figure.
