I ended up cutting a slit in a 13mm 12 point box end just enough to accommodate getting over the line. This gave me more wiggle room to get over the bolt. Everything is now all buttoned back up pressure bleed and shifting fine. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.
Regarding bleeding I jacked up the front end of car so that the slave cylinder was higher than the clutch master, sucked out as much fluid from the reservoir as possible, refilled attached the power bleeder 10psi and the rest is history.
