Whatdayudoo when you snap off a bolt?

I was working on my 1990 900S this weekend, inspecting the cooling system. I ended up deciding to replace every coolant hose on the car and removed everything in prep for getting the parts later this week. Definitely one of those "the deeper you dig, the more you find situations". Oh well, the monthly offering to my favorite parts vendor was past due.
One of the last things I did was to remove the thermostat housing. I was in a hurry - isn't this how the bad part always starts? - and snapped one of the housing bolts. I knew I was being a little overly aggressive but it happens.
I read up on the various methods for removal last night and figured the worst thing to do was to work on it when I was aggravated. Tonight, I ended up drilling it out, carefully centering a pilot hole in the bolt, starting with a 1/8" bit and taking it slow. I kept drilling, moving up one size bit at a time. Once I had drilled it to the max size - where I began to worry I'd damage the threads in the head - I applied some heat with the torch, let it cool, and inserted the ez-out. Popped right out. Whew. Make that BIG WHEW. Extracting broken bolts is not one of my favorite jobs.
I think that drilling the bolt out as much as possible allowed the meager heat from my propane torch break the corrosion loose.
So. No real question. Just what worked for me. And an invitation to others to share any tips. Because I'm not exactly an expert.
