Don't try pulling the wire when it's running. Remove the wire and then try starting. The engine should start. The wire to the temp gauge should just be a thermal resistance switch. The NTC sensor has more to do with the injection system and would run rough when disconnected. I think rechecking the ignition amplifier plug was what fixed the problem of NO start. Faulty connection.
