8valve NA problem

My 86 900 8 valve has an issue when it gets up to temp, just shudders to a halt. You have to keep the rpm above 2k or it just dies. its an intermittent problem that has been going on for years. In my best estimation the problem only happens after the car is good and hot, unless its a really hot day then it happens right off the bat regardless of the engine temp. the outside temp cools down in the evening the car runs fine, idles , and has absolutely no issue.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
