I found one of the metal clips in the plug for the Auxiliary Air Valve was pushed out of the connector and was not making good contact. I took it apart, cleaned the contacts and re-bent the tab that holds the contact in place. I also made an adjustment of the mixture at the fuel distributor. It was set a little rich, I was told that if you want to make power in an 8v cis car you have to richen up the mixture by turning the screw about a 1/4 turn clockwise. Since leaning out my mixture, all the gusto the car had before is now gone. and now I have a new problem with the car. It pops and sputters and backfires until its warmed up a little. maybe I leaned it out too far. I wont know for sure until we get another day above 90 deg. if the original problem is really gone. Coinciding with all these changes was a drastic temp drop overnight. As I stated before I thought that the problem seemed to come and go with the heat. Yesterday before making the adjustments the car was acting up and wouldnt run. testing the overheating coil possibility, I ran cold water over the coil for a while. the car fired right up and ran fine. took it out for a drive and it was fine for a while then started stalling when I depressed the clutch. checked the coil and it was hot again.
I will have to reserve judgement for now but I think there is something with that coil. Its a bosch blue coil which I was told is an upgrade for this car.
