1. Batt light should be on when ignition is on and engine isn't running.
2. Start with obvious: ground wire that grounds alternator and the thin wire for the alternator that is used for alt rotor pumping.
3. There also goes about the same wire to the oil pressure sensor, you could probably screw these wires. To determine what wire is used for you can ground them e.g. to engine and check the indicators in the instrument cluster (with ignition on). Once you ground one of these wires either batt light or oil light comes on. And if a wire is hanging aside in the air then this corresponding indicator will be off.
4. If you confirm that your batt light is dead you'd be aware that there should be used 1.2W bulb not 2W although 1.2W and 2W are about the same size. If bulb is dead there will be no charging.
Randy, just try the troubleshooting described and report the results as well as the tool set you've got. Oscilloscope is the best choice but overkill for rookie.
