So I did what I cannot stand to do, have my car put on a lift at some shop because I needed someone to run a small weld bead on my exhaust pipe. An hour later they tell me it'll be $500.00 for a new muffler and, "oh, by the way, your car is spewing water out of the overflow tank." I cannot stand having someone else touch my car but I cannot weld, not yet anyway.
They have already shut the engine off. I get in it to restart to see what's wrong. The tach is all of a sudden inoperable, the brake light and hand brake warning lights are on and the crank pulley or belts are squeaking but the temp guage is NOT in the red. It's a little over 3/4. Long story short, I drive it about a mile down the road, it's missing a little but running. I decide to pull over and stop. I turn it off, give it a little time to cool and restart. It makes a metal grinding noise like all the oil has run out and the pistons are grinding against the cylinder walls. I shut it down quick and then realize the noise seems to be coming from the front of the engine, the pulley side. So I push and pull on the water pump pulley that has less than 1500 miles on it after I pulled the engine and replaced a bunch of stuff recently, including the pump, and it's a little wobly. I think the bearing seized or it just shredded, even though when I turn the engine by hand the all the pulleys turn.
My questions are what kind of crazy light and tach symptoms are these?Never had that happen before. I gotta pull it all apart to see exactly what happened and whether I blew the HG or warped the head, pleeeeeez no! This car has NEVER let me down since the day I bought it sight unseen, but inoperable, almost 2 years ago for 300 bucks. Problem was a hall sender wire broke. I soldered it and haven't had any problems until now. It's a beauty (at least to me).
With all respect to the site sponsors, some of their products are clearly inferior and should not be sold. Sorry. But this isn't the first time an aftermarket part from 1 sponsor busted on me EXTREMELY prematurely. I'm sticking with Genuine Saab parts form now on. It just ain't worth it.
