It lives! (and ignition coil question)

Have to share the good news. I finally got my 85 spg running after taking delivery of it in February. There's more corroded wiring to work on, but at least the car runs and the fans turn on when appropriate. Of course the dumbest thing confused me but the solution might help someone else. It would turn over but not start. I had replaced the plugs, rotor and cap. I jumped fuse 27 and 30 and the fuel pump was working. I took the cap off, reinstalled the rotor and cap (which always seems to be such a fiddly pain!) and it came to life.
Now on to other things, like fixing the snapped plastic part on the accelerator cable and more wiring work. The instrument panel gauges only jump around sometimes and settle down. How nice!
One more thing I noticed. On my 91, th eignition coil has the thicker lead going to the distributor cap, and above the coil there is a smaller cylindrical shaped thingy with a smaller wire which runs to a screw on the distributor body (the other end goes I don't know where). I looked at the 85, and it does not have that cylinder or the small wire. Is something missing from the 85 then, or is it just a design change?
