I have had eight 900's over the years with cooling problems...root cause has never been fan relays or fan switches..all six cases I have experienced have been:thermostat failure (two times), radiator blockage (4 times). Usually, once reduced coolant flow happens, head gasket failure closely follows...head gasket failure more prone in 2.1L naturally apsirated engine because of shorter distance between cylinder and coolant channel..elring head gasket failure accelerated by use of silicate/phosphate (green antifreeze) and/or infrequent cooltant flushes. Once cooling efficiency is reduced, temp. swings are higher and thermal/mechanical fatigue of head gasket is accelerated. Improvements you can make to mitigate reoccurance (you may need to replace radiator and thermostat, hoperfully not head gasket):switch to lower (82 Deg C) fan switch, and switch to orange (silicate/phosphate free) antifreeze, and add relay and jumper so both fans turn on simultaneosly for cooling. This is how my 1994 900T convert. is set up. My temp gage never goes higher than aboout 60% limit before fans kick in.
Your heat being on all the time may just be the rod has fallen off the heater valve from the temp. rotary control. Pull out radio and DIN and look. Make sure you have radio code if you still have OEM clarion though...
