An '84 Red Saab 900 Surprise! Posted by BAAB [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BAAB) on Wed, 19 Aug 2009 10:16:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last night I took a drive to my local auto parts store to pick up some oil and as I am pulling in the parking lot (in my '72 Saab 96 V4), I noticed what looked to be a red '83-'84 Saab base 900 in amazing shape. The hood was open but the owners were inside the store. So I checked the car out and it was amazing. Zero rust including where the lower control arms bolts up, and the headliner was perfect along with the original cloth seats. Even the dash was only cracked slightly. It had a little over 200K on it. It was a 5-speed, 3-door. I wish I would have brought my camera.
So I go in the store to find the owners and they were getting a new battery so I waited outside while slobbering on their car. When they came out, they notice my V4 Saab right next to theirs, but I was on the opposite side of their car just admiring it so much. After all, it was almost identical to the first Saab I ever owned (except mine was an '83 4-door). They were the original owners.
They had never heard about Saabnet, and that seemed weird to me; to have a Saab that old and not know about Saabnet??? How can that be? :-) Then I wondered how many people out there have old Saabs and have never heard of Saabnet. Well, they know about Saabnet now as they asked me about where to get certain parts, etc., for their Saab.
I would have bought the car on the spot, but it wasn't for sale. It was a nice surprise to see such a clean Saab in my small town. I don't see that many anymore around here except for the fleet in my yard. They were nice folks too. Maybe we'll see them on this BB soon. Maybe they will even respond to this posting.
Anyway, I thought I would share the fun times.
