do a full high pressure chemcal flush to get anywhere. $45 when i had it done. The choice to do that depends on whether it is externally in good condition or not, as new ones are not that much more. But work with the belts first, sounds like you may be onto something there with alt belts (obviously part of the same loop), and a 'floppy' alt will be worse under higher revs, but fine at idle.
Question: Did your problem 'suddenly' develop? If so, i would say it is something physical, like broken alt bracket, instead of a rad, that would develop over time. The rad may not be perfect, but a sudden change would not be that. good luck
