Maybe a dumb one... but, I see in the Saab auto trans shop manual that there's apparently a drain from the area between the two seals on the pinion shaft (one holding back ATF, other holding back gear lube). Where does this drain come out?

Reason I ask, my ATF, while still looking clean from a flush last spring, has that characteristic gear oil smell. That shouldn't be possible, right, if the seal on the diff side starts leaking, it should just head down that drain, right?....
