to pass some sort of MOT or whatever and have to have the cat then i have used a hi flow racing cat as the OEM one was diabolical for strangling the output of the car. But here (Western Australia)we have no annual checks or MOT but any copper taking a sticky beak under the body would see a stainless steel cat on a ss 3" exhaust thru to the rear hi flow muffler and then reduced down to 2.5" for the last 20 odd inches of pipe. When i had the system made up the fella had done a few 900s and 900 turbos and thought that the 3" all the way through was too noisy and hence get a noise violation infringement from our fellas in blue. I took his advice and found it just right. Throaty with burble and a definite improvement in performance. But it may not pass California or wherever. Imho get the muffler shop to do it if you need the gear done. Cat insertion probably an hour tops? Full ss system custom made with mandrel bends and fitted took my bloke nearly three hours and he was way cheaper than the big shops and cheaper than the buy it/fit it yrself systems i see. But for me i hope to eventually build the performance up to 300hp and wanted a system that was neary upgrade proof. And the downpipe from the turbo back? Have asked for a pipe from Dave Kennedy at Lesco as he has fair dinkum seduced me with pictures of his gear and the workmanship...
Sorry to have dropped such a "performance" post into the C900 board but these things seem to cross-pollinate. Good luck with your build anyhow...
