Over the years, had a number of 900s with slushboxes. Most had about 100,000 miles on them when I got them.
If the fluid looked really nasty, I wouldn't get the car. If the fluid looked dark but not too bad, I'd get a case of inexpensive (petroleum) Type F fluid. Drain the pan, replace equal amount, drive for 10 minues or so to mix, and repeat. Repeat. by this time, the fluid would usually look pretty good. Then I'd get a case of AMSOIL Type F automatic transmission fluid and repeat the whole thing--which takes about a case of fluid. If the fluid looks good now, skip the petroleum flushes and just go with the synthetic.
Be sure to check the final drive fairly regularly. Sometimes the gear lube will seep out the side seals, and you won't see any drops. As my son-in-law found out, empty final drives don't last a long time on the highway. Again--I wouldn't use anything but synthetic gear lube.
While you are at it, change the Power Steering fluid. Suck out what you can, replace equal amount, drive to mix, and do it again and again until the fluid looks good. If the fluid looks good now, then go ahead and change it 3 times using a good synthetic ATF.
