Check the crank pulley ( harmonic balancer ) down low -- the isolation rubber mount might have separated.
The bolt on the alternator adjusting pivot bracket that goes into the engine block could have broken as well. Hope that is not the case -- hard place to get to if the bolt is broken inside the engine block.
These are the worse case conditions --- if the alternator bracket bushings have failed completely, then that could be the reason.
