Here's what I did to my Shelbys Posted by DivrDon [Email] (#1004) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DivrDon) on Wed, 14 Oct 2009 15:47:35 In Reply to: Refinish 93 900 CE Wheels, Joseph Smith, Mon, 12 Oct 2009 19:12:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I found some paint remover for aluminum in my local Murray's. Airplane stuff. Used this to strip the clear coat. The Silvervanes have grey powder coated spokes. Some of mine were blemished were the clearcoat had worn so I decided to paint rather than just re-clearcoat. I used a Mother's power ball and my dremel with aluminun wheel polish from Mother's for the lip. Mother's polish a fine rubbing/polishing compond. This polished the lip to a mirror finish. Then I masked off the lip and used a grey spray paint from Kilz called Hammerite for the spokes. Its a hammered finish. The color is not a perfect match but close. The texture from the powdercoat helped. Finally I clearcoated the entire finish. Doesn't quite look like the original silvervane, but very close. If the CE wheels are just painted silver, its the same as the Saab silver body color, 200H. They could eaily be repainted.
