and the Bentley shop manual , the specified max boost for an 88spg is 12.3 +/- .7 psi . These manuals give a slightly lower spec for the regular 88 turbo . One or both also give the car's base boost spec . Although the stock boost gauges supposedly don't all give the same reading for the same amount of boost , the aforementioned max boost spec would be about an eighth of an inch into the red on most peoples' gauges . When setting base/max boost a numerically calibrated gauge is necessary . Get an inexpensive and accurate pressure/vacuum gauge from McMaster Carr's website . Make sure the car is otherwise tuned before setting base boost . When you do set base boost you will probably need a "helper spring" for the waste gate actuator . If you just shorten the waste gate rod to get the correct base boost or someone else has already , it is possible to diminish the waste gate's ability to open enough to properly bleed off pressure when max boost is reached or engine predetonation is sensed . Read up on these procedures before attempting them or having someone else ( who may not know as much as they should ) attempt them . This website is a treasure trove of information .
