...when GM took control. For years, the design prime for each model overlapped the design prime of the preceding model, ensuring the transfer of the SAAB dna:
Sixten Sason: from the beginning up to the 99.
Bjorn Envall: 99 (overlapped Sason) 900, 9000, NG900
Einar Hareide: NG900 (overlapped Envall), 9-5, 9-3, 9-3ss
Then GM took over, purged the existing team and parachuted in Lo and Mauer to lead the design. While they may be well qualified designers, there is a disconnect + it shows. Look at the 1999 9-5 vs 2009 9-5. One is a Saab, the other a GM, yet they are the same car at heart...
