Hi Jim,
Sorry to hear about your situation. As I said before, in a previous post, my idle has been erratic as well (Gray 88 SPG, 113K).
I replaced or cleaned the following, none of which helped the warm idle situation:
Interior vacuum hoses
Dashpot (deacceleration vavle)
Distributor cap
Spark plugs (correctly gaped)
AIC valve (removed and cleaned)
Air Mass Meter (removed and cleaned)
Coolant gauge temperature sensor
PCV check valve
Intake maniford bushings on the throttle body
Vacuum hoses (changed all that I could see that were not new)
Ground wires on passenger-side body (throughly cleaned)
Throttle Body (cleaned interior with throttle body cleaner)
So, I decided to take the car to my great indie SAAB mechanic here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. And, it seems as if he fixed my idle issue, mostly. He adjusted the timing to about 18 degrees. Now, when approaching a stop the car does not drop to 400-500 RPMs. I said he 'mostly' fixed the idle because I've noticed the idle bounces a little between 1000-950 RPMs...but, that doesn't bother me on this second SPG of mine.
Hope this helps,
Jason
