it's definitely not the clutch since you failed in the shut-off engine too.
1. The linkage coupling. Have a closer look and doublecheck for defects. Consider you must find them there.
2. The stick adjustment. I don't think that's it but since I bet you don't like to go inside the tranny then you could spend some hours carrying out its adjustment. But I won't place my bet on this, maybe couple of nickels only.
3. The sinchros. Or the fork. Or the gear sleeves. Or the... ehh... what's an english for it?... There's a gizmo that has a guide pin that selects a proper fork and pushes it fwd or pulls it back according to your command you applied to the stick. EPC knows this part under 'companion flange' alias (8729808 for M91-93 trannies).
I would advise you to send a christmas card to Master Of Differentials and Chief Transmission Officer and talk to him on this after he gets back to you.
