the easy way to do this is to go to eEuroparts.com and fib that you have a 1988 900 and get the two heater hoses that is shows. you will take the hoses and that infernal bypass valve out, and retrofit to the previous configuration. on the engine there are two large and one small water fittings, and on the firewall there are two water fittings into the heater control valve. the two replacement hoses take care of that. The only trick is that the lower hose from the engine goes to the upper fitting on the firewall... when you put the hoses on the engine you will see that they look like they could go lower to lower and upper to upper, but you need to cross them for proper flow through the heater control valve. It gets unhappy when the hot water is coming in on the wrong side of the valve.
