Keep in mind that you're posting on a forum where all of us love SAABs, so there might be a slight bias.
In my experience, SAABs will run very well if you keep them maintained. Skipping maintenance causes big issues down the road. Since you're considering buying a used car, I'd ask for as much documentation as possible.
Unless you plan on doing work yourself (in which case you'll only have to pay for parts), finding a good indy SAAB mechanic is a good idea. They usually charge less and have a better understanding of what is causing problems.
There is very good advice on this site (and throughout the web - search google for "second hand buying guide") on what to look for when buying an older SAAB. Most will agree that with SAABs, high mileage isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, especially if the car is well maintained. A SAAB with 90K miles on it will be more of a money sink than a well maintained one with 180K.
Do a search of these forums for "buying a saab" or something along those lines. There's been numerous posts about things to check out before buying.
