I think that a C900 non turbo is a great first car. My first car when I was 16 was a 92 900S 5speed which I loved. They are very nice cars to drive. Im now 21 and have since had a 91 900 turbo, 91 9000 Turbo, 93 9000 Aero, and I now have a 94 9000 Aero. the 900S wasn't as fast as those cars, but it was still a blast to drive and being a bit slower probably made it a good first car. I also had very few issues with that car, and I dont think you will have issues with it breaking down suddenly. You can save yourself a lot of money by doing repairs yourself. I would use this forum for info, and you will want to [pick up a haynes manual. A $900 car isn't going to be perfect, so make sure you know what issues it has, and whether or not you will need to spend $ to fix the issues. You can always bring up the safety of a Saab 900 to convince your parents.
