Charlie-lets get some info, and work out what's going Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Wed, 3 Mar 2010 19:51:24 In Reply to: So it's not the alternator?, Charlie K., Wed, 3 Mar 2010 19:34:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
on.
1) It's definately related to charging. I am sure the battery is too dead to start the car (or do anything) after you stop, right?
2)Does the battery light come on, at all? Does it come on when you turn the ign to 'ON' (when bat is good)? The battery light (the bulb itself) is part of the charging circuit. If it is blown/missing, the battery won't charge, and you get no idiot light to help you.
3)Did anyone put a meter on the battery to confirm it was charging after it was fixed? You should own a cheap digital volt meter (DVM), any hardware store has them for $25. The only additional feature worth paying for is a 10A DC current tester.
4)There is an earth wire on the Alternator that is 100% critical for charging.Check that you can see it, and that it is secured both ends.
5)There is a trigger wire plugged into the back of the Alternator. Single wire, spade on the end (insulated). Check it is secure. It activates the Alternator.
6)There is a red cable (8 guage?) going to the Alternator and starter. Check both ends.
7)Check belts are present, and tight.
8)Do you get any squealing or overheating? If no, then it is not related to belts/pulley/harmonic balancer in any way.
You really need to get the mechanic to take care of this problem-you already paid him to fix the car, after all. One question is did you ask him to install an alternator, or fix your charging issue? Does he actually know C900's?
Still have a '90 900t semi-disassembled in the shop...Nick
