Sounds like ice in gas line Posted by Walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Walt) on Mon, 8 Mar 2010 17:41:29 In Reply to: CAR DIES DRIVING IN SNOW CONDITIONS, Bruce, Mon, 8 Mar 2010 00:44:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Water can freeze in gas PVC supply line in the loop under the rear seat (when parked uphill) or near driver "A" pillar (parked downhill). If blocking whole line, engine will start then promptly die. If partially blocked, engine will run at low throttle, but won't take full throttle, without stuttering and stalling. When plug melts, the engine runs normally. A frozen return line can weep/spray 6 bar pressurized gas from the banjo connection to fuel rail near AIC/thermostat housing. To fix: 1) use good gas, 2) keep tank full, 3) drive car regularly in winter, 4) add a bottle of isopropanol (not methanol) gas line drier e.g. IsoDry(R), 5) maintain a tight fuel system that when under vacuum won't pull in water vapor from air.
