'89 Turbo Fuel Pump Tests Posted by EverettDave [Email] (#1894) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EverettDave) on Tue, 11 May 2010 20:45:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am running the Bentley and forum recommended tests to verify whether my '89 SPG's pump is dead. 168k miles and probably the original pump, but ran perfect til 2 wks ago when it started and died cold, and then failed to restart warm, so I knew those hiccups meant some work coming.
Anyhoo, when jumping the fuses 27 and 30 to force pump operation, is the ignition switch to be ON or OFF? Second, when I first attempted this test, I flattened the battery right away. Why? Could a dead or faulty pump create that much current draw? Third, when doing the LH and fuel pump relay tests in the cabin ( dratted knee bolster #$!?*&) is that upstream or downstream of the 27 to 30 fuse jump test? In udder words, if a bad pump relay, does that block any action by the 27 to 30 jump??
Finally, do I absolutely HAVE to buy that $366 replacement pump for '89 Turbo ( Eeuroparts and Scanwest), or is there a more reasonable cost option? ( I'm referring the online ads for $100 pump inserts.)
Thanks Amigos !!
