Which speaker? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 06:19:58 In Reply to: Replace factory speakers, Rob [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 11 Jun 2010 05:53:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Dash? Door? Deck?
Dash speakers come out after removing two small screws closest to the occupants. Early cars they are a Pozidrive 0, later cars are a TORX T-10 or maybe -15 (Pretty sure on the 10, though). Pull the screws & place them in a safe place. Usually you cn now begin to lift the panel up by sliding your thumb into the defroster vent, and pulling up. Two clips hold it in place, and tabs at the front edge keep the front down, so you lift, and slip it back. Don't forget to put the defrost vent back properly!
Replacements are simple 4" drivers that are clipped in place of the old ones.
Door speakers could be installed in a variety of ways, so I can't really help there.
Deck speakers are 4x10s, and I believe are mounted from below, but some years they may be mounted from the top, in which case, you have to take the speaker panel off.
In a 900 3-door I recommend placing rear speakers in the side panels on the rear seat, as shown in the pic below. MUCH better sound than from anyplace near the rear window.
