If you really want to go through the effort....
On my 86 SPG, this is what I do on my long trips.
I'm completely stock (base boost is about 6.5psi) so take that into consideration.
All I have to do it crank the timing up to 20 degrees.
The car will knock on long hills if you push it, but I had no problems on the highway.
I averaged 33mpg on two tanks of gas (well over 750 miles up I-81 from Statesville NC). No problem on the I-77 monster hill.
The APC will cut off all the fun and force you do drive economically. The car did knock when I was in VT/NH hills after everything was heat soaked. The fuel up there isn't as good w/ the 10%+ ethanol which my car hates. GO to my destination, set timing back to 17 and no problem.
I do not know how the AID mod changes things, probably add a few more degrees of timing. Just keep your timing light with you and you should be good to go.
