suggest you do NOT do a compound, but rather use a clay bar first. check with the detail board here to get more complete information.
I personally like using Zymol, it's in a clear plastic bottle and is about sky blue in color.
Compounding is abrasive and if done improperly can take the paint down to the primer or worse. Start with a clay bar (yes I said above) and keep it slippery with the lube for it or liquid dish soap/water mix, you will be more than surprised. Keep it wet. you will be shocked at the results, in a good way!
If you drop the clay bar on the ground/driveway or what have you... it's trash. it will pickup bits and be like sand paper.
If you do use a polishing compound, start with the fine grade stuff and do it by hand, and be CAREFUL. you can't put it back! especially on the ridges in the hood and other body lines such as that...
