Hello all,
I have an '89 900 Turbo and have been going through several mind-boggling problems with it. First, the car has been idling high which in turn, burned out my catalytic converter. Replaced the catalytic converter with still a high idle problem. Today, I decided to "guess" repair the high idle problem with attempting to replace the O2 sensor. It turned out that the O2 sensor tool was the wrong fit.
Here's where the MAJOR PROBLEM starts----When I went to hook up the battery! I hooked the negative cable first, then the positive. When I touched the positive cable to the positive battery post, there were sparks and then there was smoke and electrical burning smells coming from the alternator area. There was so much smoke until I ran to get my fire extinguisher in case a fire started. Additionally, the lights came on even though the key was NOT in the ignition nor was the interior light switch on. Then I tried to start the car and it make a screeching sound (not loud). Any help on what I have messed up or burned out? Alternator or starter or something else......................?
Thanks,
Darryl
