Thanks. My car is a 1988 8 valve.
It turns out the small thermoswitch is connected to the ''Up Shift'' light. I unplugged it and then no up shift light.
So, the bigger thermoswitch. I guess it is connected to the cold start injector? Is it hooked up to anything else? Anyone know how to test this termoswitch?
The cold start issue I am having is that with the warm weather ( 80 degrees +) the engine initially starts okay and is at 1200 rpm. Then it drops after a few seconds to around 400 RPMs and back up to 1200. Then back down to 400 RPMs, etc. It seems the ''pulse'' valve is not getting locked on at 90% like it's supposed to for the 120 seconds. This seems to point to the transient enrichment relay being toast, or possibly the vacuum switch under the fuel filter is not working properly. Anyway, these are guesses at this point but since it's so warm outside -- the normal cold start should be shut out and the ''pulse'' valve should be operating the engine warm up. I am wondering if I am on the right track.
