Not what you want to hear but, a bad relay is more common than a bad ECU (in my experience). That's not to say that either is common, plenty of these cars still have both original parts working just fine. The relay can be grabbed blind in the earlier cars (pre-big bolster) and Saab probably just didn't think to relocate it after enlarging the bolster. They really don't go bad all that often. By the way, ALL cars have some part or parts that are hard to get at, the Classic 900 is actually better than most in that regard (again, in my experience). Becoming adept at reaching into and working in hidden places is just part of working on cars. The NG cars have some real "Finicky" stuff going on and so did the Ford F350 that I rebuilt the transfer case in last week. Two years ago I pulled an engine from a Model T flatbed truck for a guy. I was up to my elbow flying blind on that job once or twice. Good luck, rest assured that once it's fixed it will stay that way for a long time.
