Yeah, that's one long sentence. As a rule alternators don't go bad from sitting, batteries can. You should never smell gas fumes under the hood, something is leaking, could be the FPR or a hose or connection. Look for the gas and fix the leak. How do you know that the injector pulse is weak? Here's an idea: The diaphragm in the FPR is split and you are smelling gas running through the vacuum hose and escaping under pressure. If there is gas in the vacuum hose then the FPR is bad and is probably what's preventing the car from running. Good luck.
