BAAB,
I think that's overkill. I'd recommend either use the gasket or the 518 alone but both is like "belt + suspenders". Note that when you use the steel gasket you are supposed to lay a bead of RTV sealant in the slots at both ends. Due to the way that anaerobic sealant (518) works I wouldn't substitute it for RTV in those slots if you choose to use the gasket. Since you have already ordered the gasket I'd recommend that you use it and RTV in the slots as shown in the old manuals. I do it that way all the time (many, many times) and never have leaks there. The reason that Saab went to 518 wasn't because of leaks, it was because it's cheaper to just lay a bead of 518 all around. Save your 518 for other applications. By the way, I've seen guys go at those mating surfaces with scotch-brite or bristle disks in an air powered die grinder and that's a bad idea on the transmission (or any aluminum mating surface). It's very easy with such a tool to gouge and deform the aluminum surface enough to make for a bad joint. A good seal there, whatever sort of gasket used, depends on two really flat, straight mating surfaces. Best to clean and prepare them with careful cleaning by hand only.
