We really don't have enough to go on here and it sounds like you have front axle problems that could be muddying the diagnostic waters but here is what I would suggest: Raise the car and pop off the rear transaxle cover and then try to see if there is any radial motion of the pinion gear while the differential is rotated (tranny in neutral, roll both front wheels simultaneously in the same direction, do forward and reverse, you'll need assistants). With really, really worn pinion bearings you may be able to detect some off center motion but if you can't you may still have bad pinion bearings. Also, look in there for metal that would indicate damage or severe wear.
From reading your post I wouldn't rule out axle, clutch, engine or other problems but pinion bearings is high on the list of suspects.
