Originally, there was a Saab "SRS Tester" that would get plugged into the socket in the console. Later, the Tech 2 was given the ability to talk with the older SRS modules, the only issue being that you needed to make an adapter connector that both moves pins around, and allows you to mate two female connectors (on the Tech 2 and the car).
Pic shows the adapter I built to keep on hand.
AFAIK, the "test" at 10 years was/is to simply connect the SRS tester or Tech 2 to the car and check for codes, and function of all components.
