Hey Baggsly,
The first things I did when I knew I had to try to start it was remove the plugs and shoot some oil in each cylinder as well as drench the cams. I also had to top off the radiator. The fluid was gone in the brake master cylinder and just need a little topping off for the clutch (luckily). Also topped off the carbs.
When I first tried to start it, the starter would spin (very exciting) but the gear wouldn't move to the flywheel. I kept trying in short bursts until it sounded like it was engaging but not able to move the flywheel. then it was just clicking.
That's when I wanted to use the wheels to rotate the engine and I found out about the brakes.
Once the wheels were free, I put it in 4th and tried to roll the car. It felt like the motor moved a little and then sounded like the rear wheels were dragging. I took a break, picked up the kids, then tried again with the plugs out. The car rolled forward this time so I checked to see if it was in gear which it was.
I put everything back together, tried to start it, it was turning but not firing. I checked the carbs and they were getting gas but decided to help them out so I shot some carb cleaner into the intake. It tried to start a little then was just turning again so I shot some more carb cleaner in and then that puppy started up!
Lot's of smoke out the back from the oil I dumped in the cylinders but that cleared up.
I think I'll start it up again until it gets warm then change the oil. The brake hydraulics needs to be addressed as well somewhere down the line as well. A coolant flush would probably be good as well.
Not bad for a car that sat for 14 years without being started.
Definitely not going to neglect it as much any more.
Thanks again!
Tushy
P.S. Violation was cleared today!
