You don't pump the pedal when using a pressure bleeder!
Fill the bleeder's reservoir 1/4 to 1/2, enough that you won't run out, pump it up - you don't have to pump a lot, 10-15 PSI should be fine, attach a clear tube and catch bottle at the bleeder, and simply open the bleeder screw, and watch the magic happen. When the fluid stream runs solid (just fluid, no bubbles), close the bleeder, depressurize the tank, replace the brake master cap, and test your new clutch.
When you pump the pedal, you close off the fluid passages that supply fluid to the master from the reservoir, and thus, the pressure from your pressure bleeder.
