Gas mileage and driving comfort with the 3 spd auto... suck. My 5 spds have always gotten 27-30 mpg, the autos 20-22. Keep that in mind as you see prices rising. It's also a comfort thing-- 65 mph in the auto translates to ~3400 rpm (if I recall correctly) but just 25-2700 in 5th if you're driving a stick. The numbers may not seem like much, but knowing that each rev is one more on the clock and stretching the math out 100-200k miles should suggest that a manual tranny makes better use of the motor. It's also a much quieter and more comfortable drive at 2500 rpm.
I'm nearly done ranting now, I just want you and anyone else considering a C900 auto to know what you're getting into-- even aside from the inherent fragility of the transmission. Properly maintained, sure, it might last longer than those that passed through my possession, but even a well-running auto doesn't provide, to my mind, a true Saab ride.
