Hi Jim-- Bars-Leak may do the trick but, personally, I'd go at the root of the problem before I start adding shards of glass (or whatever it is) to the coolant system. In fact, if it is the heater valve, I'm not confident that B-L would do much good. My sense is that it works by forming a clot of sorts in coolant passages exposed to engine heat, which is how it may act to seal hairline cracks in the block, for example. If your leak is somewhere in the passenger compartment you won't get the heat nec. to form a tight seal.
I'll admit that I could be full of it, and have seen posts here that swear by the stuff but I've also seen enough posts that warn of constricted coolant flow due to deposition in the wrong places (clogging journals) that I've never been convinced it's worth the risk. Ya' pays yer money, ya takes yer chances, I guess. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
