Often, the cause of stalling out like you describe is an ignition module that's got one foot in the grave or the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor.
If you have access to a known good ignition module, swap it in and see if the car starts and runs decently.
Since you got the car, have you done the normal maintenace (NGK plugs, Bosch cap & rotor, etc)?
Oil in the turbo ducting is a normal condition, although it does get a bit worse with age and engine wear. IF you look in the plastic duct between the MAF sensor and the turbo, you'll see a slick of oil spreading out after the PCV line barbs into the duct. How much oil in the ducts after the turbo is enough that you would describe it as significant?
