Best is to just take off the belt, unbolt the bracket from the car and move the whole unit out of the way so you can work. You can flop it back on top of the fresh-air intake without a problem. No need to disconnect any hoses. If you want to permanently remove it, you'll have to go to a shop and have a professional evacuate the system first. It's against the law to just open the system to the atmosphere without evacuating the refrigerant first.
