Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll need all the encouragement I can get! Replaced the right-side brake rotor today as well, just for kicks and because my car was immobilized.
I haven't done the Loctite yet, due to a cold snap that has blown through here in northern New Hampshire. That said, I have two choices for loctite now.
Behind door number 1 is Permatex Bearing Mount for Worn Parts, which is a paste, pretty much exactly the same thing as Loctite 660 Quick Metal (Loctite and Permatex were once the same company). It says it's only good for gaps between 0.005" and 0.020", or 0.13mm to 0.508mm.
Behind door number 2 is Permatex High Strength Sleeve Retainer, which is a green liquid. It's roughly equivalent to Loctite 640 sleeve retainer. It says it's only good for gaps up to 0.007" or 0.18mm. Used for bearing retention and holding cylinder sleeves in a cylinder block.
I'm fairly sure some of my punch marks go deeper than 0.18mm. The whole worn-away spot is 0.2mm deep, or so. However, there will be regions on the shaft where direct contact is made. What to do? These gap-fill specs confound me, particularly as QuickMetal-like stuff has a minimum gap-fill spec. I have a tube of each, and I will return the one I don't use.
Thanks!
