v6 in '97 convertible?

Hi folks,
I used to own two 9K's and was impressed by the durability of the B234 engine.
Recently I've been looking at a 97 convertible with a 2.5 v6. IIRC there was never much following for the v-6's in the 9K crowd, but what about in 900's?
Isn't there some sort of a sludge problem?
Any other big issues I should know about before going to look? The car would be for my daughters so reliability is a must. I'm familiar with the 9K's and can probably do most of the work on this myself. It's an automatic--one of the girls can't drive a shift, sigh...
thanks all!
