Hi, Sullls.
I've finished (well, quite almost) my audio epopee recently and had to move the head-unit from the upper location to the lower one since the stock optical cable (3 meters) turned to be a bit short to run from the upper position to the trunk.
Well, I must say that my head-unit (pioneer deh-p580; us market is missing this model) looks much much better in the lower location when turned off and when it's on it's about the same whenever it's in the upper or lower din hole. The only con re relocation is that I used to run it in the upper position and now when going to increase (or decrease) the volume I find myself twisting C900 heater speed control instead of pioneer's volume knob.
I'll be back with photos in two days if you say you're interested. One note, though - I've got 3D hatch and I hadn't had any issues with panel going blind even with the sun-roof open on a sunny day (having the headunit in the upper din hole).
Good luck,
Zig
