Am I nuts?

Thinking too much today... I have a '90 SPG with 250k, runs great but needs a valve job and is forming some good rust underneath. I want the car to last forever. That being said, I also have a completely rust free '87 turbo that I was planning to turn into perfection this spring.
Now, the thought popped into my head today that if I have two 900s that need work this spring and my dream SPG has maybe three years left before the rust issue takes over the car, why not put everything onto the rust free '87 body this spring and have one great condition mock SPG that could last?
Am I nuts? Is that way too much work to switch everything over? Would it cost far less in the long run to wait until the SPG gives way and then buy another decent SPG to switch things over to? Would I need to switch the entire '90 engine, computers, and wiring harnesses into the '87 (which has a nearly perfect engine already), or are the performance gains not worth it?
