there is some truth to what you are saying (the obvious distinctiveness of the c900 is lost on newer models)... you are missing some things as well...
first of all, the c900 was made as a 5 door for a long time (possibly the full manufacturing period?) but was only sold in North America in the very early 80's. It is a sought after c900 model here!
like them or not, the newer Saabs still have many characteristics of the old, but with each model under GM's ownership, the obvious "Saabishness" was reduced (in an attempt to sell more cars)... subtly, there is still quite a bit there... those who have owned Saabs over the years including the newer models claim they are some of the best yet in terms of reliability. Of course the "repairability" of a modern car is not quite the same as an older car.
going forward, the current management wants to bring Saab back to it's glory days of independent design + we hopefully will see some cool stuff coming out in the next few years (the NG5-5 & 9-4x were developed in the GM era)... Castriota is saying all the right things... they will be moving on from the current design concepts of Mauer + Lo and he is drawing inspiration from the c900 era and before...
It's great to live in the past if one is a bit older + has room for 8 or more cars (nice! ;-) + ideally does not live in the "salt belt"... for a younger family with kids, carseats, and loads of gear, having a newer one wouldn't hurt (eg for road trips)... but we're doing fine with 2 c900s as our only cars + like them a lot...
