That was a bit painful to watch Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 22:39:34 In Reply to: Saab on FIRE, Julie, Wed, 16 Mar 2011 11:54:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Video starts with the hood open, so I presume the driver and passengers were able to escape the blaze, and that's a Good Thing.
I'm reminded of the only time that I've ever witnessed an actual car fire. I was in Greenlawn, NY, out midway on Long Island and had walked to the local grocery. A Jaguar pulled in, unhurriedly, but nonetheless dripping molten chars from somewhere near the engine compartment. I sidled-up to an older fellow watching the scene and we were both amazed as the Dude, earbuds intact and thoroughly nonchalant, exited the car and walked toward the store.
We yelled: Dude-- you're car's on fire! but he walked right past. The flames did catch, and it began to burn, but slowly. Dude came out after a couple of minutes with a fire extinguisher, but it was too little, too late. He did have time to open the driver's door and extract some stereo gear but still, he didn't seem that concerned.
Shortly thereafter, the fire dep't arrived, flooded the burning parts with water and bashed-in the driver's window to souse the interior for good measure.
I turned to my elderly (new) friend and said "See? THAT'S why I don't drive a Jaguar."
