I would check for even compression numbers -- if one cylinder is off by more than 10% you won't have a steady idle. If the compression numbers are very close to the same for all the cylinders, then check plugs ( gaps ) wires, and distributor cap/rotor for starters. Four cylinder engines aren't particularly smooth running, but it shouldn't shake like that if everything is proper.
